National Smile Month Is Here — Make It Work for Your Practice

Tips
May 29, 2025

Let’s be real — your patients probably don’t have National Smile Month marked on their calendars.

But that’s actually the opportunity.

June gives you a built-in moment to shift the conversation away from procedures and promotions — and toward something every patient can relate to: their smile.

This is the kind of month that doesn’t need a flashy campaign to be effective. It just needs your voice, your team, and a few small messages that make people feel seen and understood.

Here’s how to use National Smile Month to educate, engage, and inspire.

😁 1. Share Patient-Friendly Tips (That Actually Get Read)

Most patients don’t scroll Instagram for dental advice — but that doesn’t mean they won’t stop to read a tip that’s short, clear, and genuinely useful.

Start with basics that are easy to turn into content:

🪥 How to brush and floss properly (visuals win here!)

💬 The truth about whitening strips vs. in-office treatments

🦷 How often they really need cleanings — and what skipping them could mean

Try a “Smile Tip of the Week” on social or in email. You don’t need perfect branding — just consistency and a conversational tone.

Pro tip: Use emojis, casual phrasing, and video clips if possible — it boosts engagement across the board.

📣 2. Bust a Few Myths (Nicely)

Every dental team has a list of common misconceptions they hear on repeat.

June is your moment to clear the air — in a fun, relatable way.
Use simple language and try one myth per post. A few classics:

❌ “Baby teeth don’t matter — they’ll fall out anyway.”

❌ “Harder brushing = better results.”

❌ “If I don’t feel pain, I don’t need a checkup.”

❌ “Fluoride is dangerous.”

Make it friendly, maybe even a little playful. “If you’ve ever thought this, you’re not alone — but here’s what we want you to know…”

You’re not just correcting patients — you’re educating with empathy.

📸 3. Highlight Real Smiles, Not Stock Photos

Patients don’t connect with perfect graphics — they connect with real people.

That means this is the time to:

🎉 Share before-and-after photos of smile makeovers (with permission)

🦷 Highlight a patient’s story about gaining confidence through treatment

📸 Post a team photo or a goofy boomerang from your hygienists with “Smile!” signs

Or go even simpler — ask your team:
“What’s something that made you smile this week?”
Then post it. That’s content that feels good and doesn’t cost a thing.

💬 4. Get a Little Personal

One of the best ways to create content during Smile Month is to share the story behind the practice.

Ask yourself:

  • Why did we get into dentistry in the first place?
  • What’s one thing we wish patients knew about their smiles?
  • What moment recently reminded us why this work matters?

Write those answers out. That’s your next caption, blog, or patient email.

Remember — your followers want to feel something. You don’t need a promotion to give them that.

✨ You Don’t Need a Campaign — Just a Message

You don’t need a Smile Month logo.
You don’t need a discount.
You don’t need perfect branding.

What you do need is a reason to show up in your patients’ feeds or inboxes with something that makes them pause — smile — and maybe even hit “Share.”

Whether it’s a small tip, a heartfelt story, or a simple thank-you, that’s what builds trust. And trust builds appointments.
